The Problem with Using Force

When you force something, you disrupt the natural flow of events and hinder your ability to adapt to changing circumstances. This lack of flexibility and resilience can make it challenging to navigate obstacles or unexpected situations effectively.

The main issue, however, is that force can create resistance and inner struggle, as you push against the current instead of allowing things to unfold organically. It often requires a tremendous amount of effort and energy, leading to frustration and exhaustion.

In the musical “Let It Flow,” we juxtapose characters using force and with those allowing flow. What the audience discovers is that force may appear to provide more clarity and certainty, but it ultimately provides a counterforce both internally and externally. The other significant issues with using force are:

Lack of Authenticity: Forcing something may involve compromising your authenticity and true desires. You might try to fit into a particular mold or pursue goals that don’t align with your values or passions. This can lead to a sense of emptiness or dissatisfaction, as you’re not honoring your true self.

Limited Perspective: When you force something, you may become fixated on a specific outcome or path, disregarding other possibilities. This narrow focus limits your ability to see alternative options or creative solutions that may be better suited to your circumstances. It can hinder personal and professional growth, as well as the exploration of new opportunities.

Control and Manipulation: Forcing something often involves trying to control or manipulate people, situations, or outcomes to fit your desired outcome. This approach can strain relationships, breed mistrust, and undermine authenticity and collaboration. It can also lead to missed opportunities and unintended consequences.

Increased Stress and Anxiety: The pressure to force a particular outcome can create heightened stress and anxiety. The constant striving and fear of failure or not achieving the desired result can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being. It may lead to burnout and a sense of constant dissatisfaction.

Missed Opportunities: By being fixated on forcing a specific outcome, you may overlook or dismiss alternative opportunities that could be even more beneficial or aligned with your true desires. The rigid focus on one path can result in missed chances for growth, learning, and serendipitous experiences.

Exerting effort and taking action are necessary elements of achievement, but forcing something implies trying to control every aspect beyond reason. Finding a balance between intentional action and allowing things to unfold naturally can lead to a more fulfilling and harmonious journey.
